Did some thinking this week on the Japanese concept of “ikigai.” It is the synthesis of what you’re good at, what you love, what you can be paid for, and what the world needs. (You can check it out for yourself on my Instagram, linked below.)
I think it’s important to realize that finding your way to ikigai isn’t as simple as just burning all the ships in your harbor, and committing yourself completely to whatever passion or whim you stumble upon. What you’re good at isn’t necessarily what you might love, and while you might be providing something the world needs, maybe no one is willing to pay for it.
What I mean is, ikigai takes work, and if you’re looking for your “reason for being,” you can get started at any time. All you need to know is already inside yourself.
Let’s chat.
