For those of you unfamiliar, body chart: that thing you fill out and mark where your pain is. Malingerer: a faker.
—
I know when I used to see a body chart covered in x's (indicating pain all over) my first response was ?. Those patients are always more difficult to treat and I honestly didn't have the skill-set or understanding to best help them or. Fast forward a good number of years, some pain science courses, and a new outlook on things, those x's now mean something different.
—
That system is sensitized. That person could likely benefit from education about pain science. Their pain is REAL despite the fact that their tissues may be unremarkable and all of their tests clear.
—
Keeping this one shorter because my ✈️ is about to take off and these flight attendants don't mess around. Take home message: realize that your toolbox can dictate how you view patients. Never stop learning.
