DM #337: Sometimes folks just don't know how to do stuff. Plain and simple.

What am I talking about? Let's take for example the patient with full mobility who has been told to not let their knees come forward when they squat and thus can only squat halfway down before they fall backwards. First glance and a ?y assessment would have you believe that it's their ankle mobility that's stopping them. WRONG.

As always, we must assess and not just guess when it comes to figuring out the cause of someone's movement dysfunction. If someone's been getting the wrong cues or simply lacks body awareness, they may looked all types of jacked up when they move. Additionally, they may FEEL like things are tight, when in reality it's just that they don't understand what they're supposed to be doing and so when they try to perform the movement, their compensations are throwing things off.

So, as always, assess, assess, assess. Find a provider near you, take the time to go and see them, and figure out if your ? is actually jacked up or if you just don't know what the heck you're supposed to be doing. ?
