DM #696: Some days I love the interwebs. Some days the interwebs drive me crazy. Today, it was the latter.

I’m all about social media. I will absolutely be the first to sing it’s praises. I’ve curated a feed that I believe will bring me smiles, but some days it brings me facepalms. Why must we make everything so incredibly complicated?

Free information. Readily available for consumption. As for digestion…that’s a whole different story. Must these explanations of drills and interventions and mechanisms of action be so complex and convoluted? I mean…really?

I know I’m the first to quote ol’ Ida and say that when it comes to treating a human “where you think it is, it ain’t.” But i’m also the first to say that you had best first start where you think it is and make that person feel better before you go wandering down 37 different 🐇 🕳🕳. After all, many times, the simplest solution is the right one.

You want to help your patients and clients? Makes stuff work good. Plain and simple. Watch them. Listen to them. Care about them. Then address the stuff that doesn’t look right. It really doesn’t have to be rocket surgery. All you new clinicians, I’m especially looking at you here 👀. Social media is gonna present you with some crazy 💩. Take it in, but don’t take it as gospel.

The longer I’ve been treating, the simpler my treatments have become. You don’t need 972394 bands to perform a drill. You don’t need to test 82937 muscles to assess a patient. You don’t need to take 293748 continuing education courses to be confident that what you’re doing will help your patient/client.

Take-home: Keep it simple, and when in doubt, start at the beginning.
