DM #721: A simplified approach to assessment.

Bigger movements need to be utilizing bigger muscles (not here to argue about whether or not individual ‘muscles’ exist 🙄). If you find yourself having pain and issues at smaller muscles/joints when performing these bigger movements, make sure that the big guys are doing their job.
—
What the heck am I talking about? Let’s take for example running and jumping. Big movements. Power should be coming from big muscles, aka your glutes. Yes, the calves can and will totally help out, but if they’re taking the brunt of the work, we shouldn’t be surprised when our achilles starts telling us it’s unhappy. I may or may not be speaking from personal experience here 🤷🏽♂️.
—
Need another example? Pull-ups. Depending on your size, that can be a whole lotta mass to move. Your shoulder and back musculature is a whole lot bigger than that of your elbow. Proceed accordingly. And if you find yourself with some elbow trouble, let’s look at those bigger players and make sure that they’re doing their job.

Take-home message tonight: keep it simple. Big moment, big muscles. Make sure everyone is doing their job.
